Inkjet cartridges are extremely easy to refill with the right tools. Many cartridges have the printheads built into the cartridge, and basically consist of the ink tank, ink sponges (in color cartridges only), and the printhead. Some other cartridges have the printheads built into the printer, and the cartridges basically consist of the ink tank and ink sponges (in color cartridges only). Generally a cartridge should be recharged before it runs completely out of ink. If the cartridge is completely drained, it may cause the printhead to dry up or the electric contacts to overheat and the cartridge can be damaged to the point of no use.
Inkjet cartridges can be easily refilled keeping in mind a few simple facts. A black, or single color cartridge, must be pressurized in order to function properly. The pressurization procedure is simple - explanation and tools are part of the refill kit. With color cartridges, the key is not to let the different colored inks contaminate one another at the printhead as this alters the printed colors. Avoidance and/or recovery from cross contamination is simple and is explained in the instructions.
